Suren Govender: CEO, Inburru Technologies
Suren Govender is CEO of Inburru Technologies, which is a venture he started in 2017 to explore his entrepreneurial ambitions. Suren remains an active participant in the technology community and leverages his 24 years of technology experience across all the industry sectors to create value out of technology. He has an engineering and information systems academic background and he is a self-confessed geek who has been researching future technology since he was 10 years old.

With more than 15 years’ experience in BI, data warehousing and architecture, spanning a wide range of industries and companies, among those government organisations, Barlows Equipment, Pfizer Pharmaceutical, Anglo American and, currently, Stanlib, De Swardt has strong analytical capabilities and is a great believer of constant innovation and improvement, continuously analysing data and data patterns.
Jade Abbott; Senior Software Engineer & Machine Learning Engineer, Retro Rabbit
Jade is a Senior Software Developer and Data Scientist. She joined Retro Rabbit in 2013 as a software developer. She has built a multitude of applications in areas from social upliftment to banking for countries all over Africa targeting platforms from USSD, feature phones, high-end mobile phones, web and chat protocols where she also contributed to a number of open source mobile tools – working at every end both front-end, middleware and back-end
Since then, her focus has shifted to AI and data science – her life long passion. She is currently training deep learning models to perform a variety of NLP tasks for real life systems where she’s been wrangling data engineering and data ops problems (and loving it). She recently completed her Masters in Swarm Robotics and as a published researcher has presented her research multiple times locally and abroad.
Laurence Rau: Co-founder, Emerge
Laurence Rau has more than 15 years of experience in the South African financial services sector working at companies like Nedcor, Discovery and Transaction Capital. As an Industrial Engineer, Laurence is particularly excited about improving efficiencies in business process and believes machine learning is a game-changer in making corporate business much more profitable. Laurence has also started 3 entrepreneurial ventures including his most recent business called Emerge.
Sammy Machethe, Principal specialist: analytics and insights, Vodacom
Sammy Machethe obtained his BSc computer science and statistics at the University of Limpopo in 2006. He started his professional career in BI at FNB as an MIS analyst in 2007. Most of his experience is in the financial industry in the Banking sector. He has over 10 years working experience in the IT space. Since then, he has filled lead roles twice as an Team Lead: MIS Analyst at African Bank and Lead: Business Intelligence Analyst at FNB.
Sammy has all-round experience in BI spac; from being a SQL Database Administrator, BI Developer, Data Analyst to Reporting. Currently, he is working at Vodacom as a Principal Specialist: Analytics and Insights. 2018 Achievements: Speaker at ITWeb 2018 Business Intelligence and Analytics Event.
Some of the successful executed BIG Projects:
1. African Bank: Contactability Project – Re-establishing Customers’ Contactability after they took Loans and disappeared.
2. FNB: Interchange Determination Project (IDP) – This project was launched by SARB to address interchange fees as applicable to each of the payment streams officially recognised and registered within the SANPS. This project was announced between 2009 and 2010 and only implemented in 2013. All the Banks had to build Models to collect and populate the data as per SARB IDP Template. I was involved from start-to-end as a Key/Primary Resource in building this Model for FNB Debit Card.
